“He is going to build a palace by saving 50 paisa coins” was the remark of a taxi driver in the sixties against me a teenager then. Now the metered taxis have almost vanished from the city but the style of language used by them continues even today by their successors, the auto drivers. While I am not fully against them I am also not fully for them. Essentially there are people who can be categorized as good, bad, ugly. It is the image of “bad” that has been living with them may be because they are in majority. When government staff who get good pay, regular bonus and overtime go on strike you concede to their demands but my asking extra ten rupees after being without earnings for half a day is it a crime, is their genuine argument. WHAT IS HRM IN THE NEW ERA

When someone enters your house on a hot summer afternoon what would you do? You would readily offer him a glass of cool water as you understand his physical needs. This in essence is the beginning of HRM. The need of human beings vary from a glass of water in a visiting house to receiving standing ovation in front of his family for outstanding performance in the office. While in the first case the need is non competitive it is not so in the second case. Fulfillment of a need in a competitive environment creates winners and runners. The role of HR in managing the hurt ego and the priding ego and the in between supporting egos of both sides decide the success of the HR functionary.
