THE INTANGIBLE SIDE OF LEADERSHIP TOO IS A FEATHER IN THE CAP OF LEADERS

Image
The group of students decided on a picnic but Ram was hesitant to join. “Don’t worry I will see that they don’t trouble you, you also come” assured Bharat pointing to three in troupe who were boisterous by nature and seen as bully. Ram joined the party.  All that Bharat did was to size up the anxiety and hesitation of Ram who was otherwise timid, submissive, conforming and yet joyful and inventive on such occasions. The secret of success of Bharat as leader is he is able to similarly size up the mindset of other people who may be brash, bully, aggressive or even uncouth  and prop them up to come out of their original shell at least for the time being. This is achieved without the individuals expressly spelling out their feelings to Bharat, yet he read out their mind successfully and has also been a part of that mindset on occasions.  In other words people of varied nature find something in the leader that resonates with theirs. People do have anxie...

HRM IS NOT A T20 GAME

If the cost of potato comes to two rupees a kilo and a liter of petrol ten rupees then the employees would get only basic pay and perhaps some House rent allowance. This in fact is the exact concept of dearness allowance. When the cost of goods goes up, be it food items or consumer durable or medicine things become dearer. In other words the rupee fetches far lesser per one unit. That is how it is called dearness allowance which in sum and substance exists to compensate the erosion of money value.   An allowance is meant to reimburse in cash after computing the money equivalent of any additional task/responsibility assigned or carried out by an employee. Because such burden is not allotted in each and every case, the word ‘special’ got attached to it. While drivers are normally in the subordinate cadre special allowance is part of their package for the additional skill and responsibility. Such allowances are also given for possessing additional skills like stenograp...

MBA NEW DEFINITION FOR EMPLOYABILITY

Image
When Mrs. Kavitha  died I expressed sorrow on reading the news in the PC. About half a dozen MBAs were around me and none seemed to share the agony and when I repeated Karkare the police officer one of them vaguely remembered the name. While I do not expect them to remember every martyr by name, recent events related to country's security I thought should be within their knowledge. But as I interacted more I found that MBA was just another degree for them to get a job and not for the prestige and pride of it. While general knowledge need not be a yardstick to measure merit to a particular job, absence of it or disinterest in it is a pointer to judge  personality and knowledge. That exactly is the reason among many when most graduates are not employable for their qualification.  “Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man”. This quote by Swami Vivekananda is a gospel to me.  An MBA need not jump in joy for the gold medal of Mary Kom or the ...

FIVE IN ONE OF INITIATIVE --THE LEADERSHIP TOOL

Image
A teenager in the beginning of teenage learns two wheeler, and four wheeler by the end of teenage by sheer initiative. Initiative is the ignition of success. To blast off with initiative it is necessary to understand how initiative operates through its high fives.     FIVE IN ONE OF INITIATIVE     -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What works against the ignition of initiative is the hesitation. When you want to dare you dither, for risking you vacillate, pause to make effort, to lead undecided for fear of failure, then feel why change let it remain. Think again of the success you had in learning two wheeler and four wheeler when hesitation was unknown. Reestablish that mindset with determination and you are ignited to success.  *********************************************************************** ...
