      "Rupees eight hundred penalty for an improperly presented cheque?" This is the beginning of an argument between a customer and the bank clerk. The customer had forgotten to sign the cheque and it bounced though all other things were correct and the bank charged Rs. 800/- for the mistake treating it as an offence.      A car worth eighty lacs was bought with bank loan where the delivery of the car was delayed beyond the auspicious month for want of full payment by a mere Rs. 400/- which the bank deducted from the loan amount as part of processing fee with the explanation 'though processing fee is waived this fee is compulsory'. THIS DAY THAT YEAR --- 1978

I know how terrible unemployment even without the poverty is. One is left with idleness, boredom and also loneliness with 'busy' people looking down at you and also semi employed people feel 'one up' over you. This day changed that lifestyle of mine way back in 1978. I have seen in others what unemployment with poverty is. Sisters teen aged though used to share slippers when they go for special occasions, the only set of dress for both men and women at home used to be preserved again for special occasions. A boy from such a family got a job in Tata Motors (then called Telco) as graduate engineering trainee for Rs.900/-per month stipend. The whole family rejoiced and borrowed money to send him all the way from down south to Tata Nagar to join the job. I waited for my day after genuinely wishing him all the best as I had by then completed a year of unemployment living in three different towns with as many relatives before settling in a small shelter ...

In the cities there will be illuminated Ads where 'Colgate' toothpaste will move and 'Surf' powder soap would come. Most people think indiscipline would move equally easily to give way to discipline.  ·       Bad service in banks/railway-transport bookings ·       Neighbor blaring hi-fi music ·       Traffic violations/parking violations ·       Corruption, fraud, indiscretion (all these by others)   The above are some common acts of indiscipline. Most of them are formed since at their first occurrence it was neither questioned nor resisted. A resistance if not questioned forces the offender to vacillate before committing the offence.
