INDISCIPLINE VS DISCIPLINE
In the
cities there will be illuminated Ads where 'Colgate' toothpaste will move and
'Surf' powder soap would come. Most people think indiscipline would move
equally easily to give way to discipline.
- · Bad service in banks/railway-transport bookings
- · Neighbor blaring hi-fi music
- · Traffic violations/parking violations
- · Corruption, fraud, indiscretion (all these by others)
The above are some common acts of
indiscipline. Most of them are formed since at their first occurrence it was
neither questioned nor resisted. A resistance if not questioned forces the
offender to vacillate before committing the offence. Complacence in questioning
breeds the habit, creating in the process the right to commit the offence.
When the offence is successfully committed the offender benefits but the
person failing to question does not lose initially. The right to commit the
offence gradually becomes the right to enjoy the benefits out of committing the
offence. The fact that it is an offence is thus gradually forgotten and the
benefits become the right. It is at that stage more people are affected by the
offence though it is not perceived as offence by the offender but as a right.
Here starts the battle. The disciplined starts questioning the
indiscipline but individually. The undisciplined lot being the long time
beneficiary of riches (wrongly or otherwise) collectively resist tooth and nail
the attempt to change the system that works in their favor.
Those needing discipline hence have to learn to question and resist the
wrong at the first place to prevent further deterioration of the system. Just
as the habits got formed over a period of time collective indiscipline by the
groups cannot be wished away overnight but needs time to soften and decay for
good. Like a disease earned in the body by long drawn bad habits in liver,
heart or anywhere as cancer it can be cured only thro a painful process and
longer the process of forming the more painful the process of relief.
Hence once the realization dawns that it is a painful process and not an
easy change like the advertisement slide a beginning is made to bring culture
of discipline back.
