JNU AND BREEDING OF LEADERSHIP
The boss had just taken charge in his
home town where there was always a group hostile to him. The boss was righteous,
efficient and able administrator but seen as rigid at times. The hostile group
also had its vested interest. A group of five men from the hostile gang had a
very friendly and personal conversation with the boss only to trap him with
words of "I agree" for a statement of "should be beaten with
slippers".
Within an hour the union that trapped
the boss spread the news to the entire nation that the boss said "I will beat
the leaders with slippers". There were agitations, demonstrations and
finally the boss was removed to maintain peace. The incident is almost two
decades old but I still ponder over this as to what wins in the game of leadership
and administration.
Whenever I read about Rohet Vemula
and JNU issues, I wonder how a truth that may be insignificant as content
explodes when it takes center stage. Control and dissemination of information
is a very vital quality of leadership and failure here will be the beginning of
losing control over situations and administration. Unfortunately in India many
of the present opposition parties especially the Communists are experts in
propagation of selective and discriminatory facts as news.
Some of the political parties while
in power succeeded with failed administration due to their special ability of
dissemination of information till the continued failure surfaced bolder and
wider. It is sad more so in democracy where an able government is not seen so,
due to their poor performance in the art of dissemination while the opposition
is very good at it.
The boss (referred in earlier Para) who
lost the position got a bigger assignment and took on the same opposition with
great success but after two years in hibernation after learning the art of
dissemination of information. JNU is the place where much present day political
leadership had their incubation. But the current crop of students will have the
additional benefit of understanding the power of "Information
Dissemination" as a tool for successful Leadership.
If that happens the nation would
benefit with efficient leadership that would also know how to be seen as
efficient.
