HR -- PLEASE REINVENT THE FAREWELL CULTURE
When I recently attended a farewell in a Bank, I felt the absence of that culture today in most industry. People hop jobs for more salary today, but the salary remains more balanced in Public sector with the constant increase thro DA and increments. But with a job span of over thirty years in the same organization if not in the same office also gets them the benefit of fulfillment of intangible human needs like appreciation, respect, recognition and esteem. While farewell is inevitably offered in most government offices, a spontaneous and widespread participation by those who revere the person and his contribution makes it a memorable day for the individual who feels that all the pain and pressure that the job role offered were worth undergoing again, when he hears of the acknowledgement of his contribution. Sadly this culture is not prevalent in present day organizations where a parting is symbolized by a lunch or dinner outside the office often in alcoholic aroma. ...
