42 ALLOUT 1974 AND 36 ALL OUT 2020
- 42 ALL OUT IN THE SECOND TEST ON 8TH JUNE 1974.
- SURU NAIK, ONE OF THE PLAYERS WAS CAUGHT FOR SHOPLIFTING.
- “YOURS BOYS NOT ONLY PLAY BAD CRICKET BUT ALSO HAVE BAD MANNERS”
(comment
by the Indian High Commissioner to England, to the manager of the team, Colonel
Hemu Adhikari for walking out of the meeting by the Indian team for getting
insulted for late coming to Buckingham Palace.)
These three incidents of 1974 resulted in heavy demoralization to the team that they lost the third test also by an innings defeat and lost the series 3-0. Ajit Wadekar the captain resigned in bitterness at age 31 years.
AJIT WADEKAR WHO FELT HERO TO ZERO |
India then was no match to England more so in English conditions, but the chance series win in the previous outing and a home series win against them raised expectation of another series win when this ignominy happened. But the 36 all out story of 2020 is different. India is almost equal in strength except for the Australian conditions and night cricket. The backdrop is more of victories than defeat unlike the team of the seventies. Hence the 36 all out is all the more unacceptable and shocking.
SUNNY GAVASKAR THE GREAT HAD TO TAKE THIS IGNOMINY AS WELL IN 1974 |
Introspection, self-analysis, brain storming etc will happen but demoralization must be avoided. Sunil Gavaskar, the great was unfortunately part of the 42 all out team and is now in Australia. One only hopes that he would volunteer to assuage the wound to recover. Virat Kohli’s great record no doubt is dented by this ignominy, but his absence may bring in 'fresh blood' think tank.
All Indian cricket fans are no doubt angry, frustrated, shocked and also feel let down but expect a turn around that has happened so often against Australia.
LET US SUPPORT THE TEAM TO DELIVER AT THIS HOUR OF CRISIS.
