 I heard of Yale university in the obscure environment of physics classroom. Names of scientists and their inventions was easier to remember than understanding their theories. Yale university figured often as the place where studies and experiments were conducted by the scientists. While Morse as inventor of teleprinter I remembered, quantum mechanics and cyclotron I could never decipher as also those who invented it, as the lessons evaporated from the mind before it got registered. Yet it registered strongly in the mind that high respect is what they deserve.

            THE GUIDE IS BUSY EXPLAINING AND PEOPLE BUSY GAZING IN AWE AT YALE

Standing in front of the main entrance of that Yale university after more than four decades of college days gave a high sense of aura. The student who doubled as guide exhibited eloquence and pride as she took us around the huge campus and imprinted respect in the minds of all the tourists about Yale university.

      Walking around the more than 200 acres campus of the more than three-hundred-year-old university was great feeling of pride after learning its connections with American independence history, founder’s philanthropy, colonial days association with India and many more stories.George Bush, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Paul Newman were a sample of galaxy of alumni of Yale university that motivated some parents to bring their children specifically to feel inspired and the student who acted as guide succeeded in adding to the feeling that the siblings started inquiries with  the guide on campus facilities, discipline curriculum etc.

 It was of least utility for me for curriculum related matters as I was not for any admission into Yale, yet the visit was special as the respect with which I came to see it multiplied as I actually saw it, and even after a year, the visit and the photos give happy memories. Sitting in front of the gates with tired legs with cool breeze blowing with lot of trees for sun cover was a unique feel of sensitivity.

                                       THIS IS THE BRINJAL PLANT I WAS FAMILIAR WITH How do you know? This was the question of my colleague with additional surprise. EDUCATION AND SCHOOLS

It was a quiz program to test the knowledge of Tamil. Three schools participated out of which two had good brand value and were also from urban/metro areas. The third was from a small remote village near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district. I was delighted when the boys from this school won and earned handsome rewards in cash and kind. It is a middle school of less than 500 students and KPA of teachers include visiting homes of students and convincing parents on value of education to send students to schools instead of work. In others words marketing of a school which did not have brand value. The students wore new uniform for the program and were beaming with confidence to compete. The urge for knowledge and consequent respect and recognition it fetches ignited their spirit to be competitive.
